This one was a pleasant surprise, especially since I hadn't heard of it before the disc showed up in my mailbox. Sporting a great cast, Anchor Bay's OPERATION: ENDGAME (2010) is a fun and funny action comedy that keeps you on your toes.

Deep beneath a Los Angeles office building is the headquarters of a covert government agency that even the government won't admit exists. Housing some of America's dirtiest secrets, The Factory is staffed by two competitive teams of psychotic assassins (all named after Tarot cards). On the day of President Obama's inauguration, the head of the agency (Jeffrey Tambor, HELLBOY, ARRESTED DEVELOPMENT) is assassinated and the complex goes into lockdown. This is "Operation: Endgame," and in an hour, the entire facility will be flooded with napalm, destroying all of the stored intelligence and killing the staff. This is especially bad news for The Fool (Joe Anderson, THE CRAZIES), because it's his first day at work, and the two teams of killers now seem to be out for each others' blood....

With a cast that includes such familiar faces as Ellen Barkin (THE ADVENTURES OF BUCKAROO BANZAI), Ving Rhames (PULP FICTION), sexy Maggie Q (MI:III), Zach Galifianakis (THE HANGOVER), Emilie de Ravin (LOST), and Rob Corddry (HOT TUB TIME MACHINE), OPERATION: ENDGAME is an enjoyably ludicrous spoof of modern spy films and office comedies. The direction by Fouad Mikati is polished and professional, the dialogue is sharp and funny as hell, and the action is fantastic, as the various characters attempt to eliminate each other with the only weapons at hand - office supplies.

Anchor Bay brings OPERATION: ENDGAME to Blu-Ray with a crystal-clear, super-sharp 1080p, 2.40:1 widescreen HD transfer and Dolby Digital 5.1 and PCM 5.1 sound. The supplemental features are a little disappointing - the only extras are a "behind the scenes" featurette, an alternate opening and alternate ending. The DVD edition is essentially identical, albeit in standard definition.

OPERATION: ENDGAME hits the streets on July 27th, and is a enjoyable action comedy with a fair number of surprises and a lot of laughs. I liked it a lot. Recommended.
